Carlos Manuel Rivera nace en Arecibo en 1965. Es maestro, escritor y profesor universitario. Obtuvo su maestría en español de la Universidad Interamericana Recinto Metropolitano. Prosigue estudios doctorales en el Centro de Estudios Avanzados de Puerto Rico y el Caribe. Ha escrito en revistas y espacios literarios cibernéticos.
Recibió premiaciones, tanto en cuento como en poesia, en los certámenes auspiciados por la Universidad Interamericana, Recinto Metropolitano. Su colección de relatos Fractales Colt 45 ganó una mención como primer finalista en el Certamen Interuniversitario, auspiciado por la Universidad de Puerto Rico en el 2009.

Más que un historiador y un arqueólogo, don Ricardo Alegría fue uno de los grandes responsables de la conservación del patrimonio cultural que los puertorriqueños tanto atesoran hoy.
Nació el 14 de abril de 1921 en el Viejo San Juan. Hijo del periodista, abogado, político y fundador del Partido Nacionalista José S. Alegría, su trabajo como arqueólogo lo dedicó a la investigación de la prehistoria indígena.
Su compromiso patriótico convirtió a don Ricardo en eje de estímulo y promoción artística de la cultura del País. Revivió costumbres nativas, llevó a nivel didáctico expresiones que hasta entonces se consideraban folclóricas, amplió el panorama artesanal y logró revalorizar la importancia de edificaciones coloniales y monumentos del País. Bajo su liderato reunió al más grande equipo de profesionales de todas las ramas en defensa de la cultura. Toda la zona histórica de municipios como San Juan y Ponce permanece intacta y funcional gracias a su trabajo.
Hizo sus estudios primarios y secundarios en las escuelas del Viejo San Juan. Mientras estudiaba su bachillerato en la Universidad de Puerto Rico (U.P.R.) en 1942, el también antropólogo, formó junto a Yamil Galib el primer Consejo de Estudiantes de la institución y creó una nueva fraternidad para acabar con el prejuicio racial que tenían las otras.Además de su bachillerato en Arqueología obtuvo una maestría de la Universidad de Chicago en Antropología e Historia en 1947 y un doctorado en Antropología de la Universidad de Harvard en 1954. Igualmente se le otorgó un certificado en museografía del Museo de Historia Natural de Chicago.
Bajo su iniciativa nació la revista Caribe. Escribió sus primeros artículos en el Puerto Rico Ilustrado en donde conoció al escritor Miguel Meléndez Muñoz y a la poeta Julia de Burgos.
Para don Ricardo la fundación y la organización del Instituto de Cultura marcó el momento más satisfactorio de su carrera por lo que significó para el rescate del patrimonio cultural del País. Pero del mismo modo, extendió su conocimiento a las nuevas generaciones a través de la fundación del centro de Estuidos Avanzados de Puerto Rico y el Caribe.Entre sus publicaciones más sobresalientes se encuentran “La población aborigen antillana y su relación con otras áreas de América” (1948), “Historia de nuestros indios” (1950- obra de propósito educativo a nivel elemental), “La fiesta de Santiago Apóstol en Loíza Aldea” (1954), “Los renegados” (cuento) y “Cuentos folclóricos de Puerto Rico” (1967). Diversas revistas especializadas del país y del exterior, principalmente en Estados Unidos, México y Cuba publicaron sus artículos sobre arqueología y folclore de Puerto Rico.
Dirigió el programa para la conservación y restauración de los monumentos y zonas históricas de Puerto Rico. Entre los monumentos restaurados bajo su dirección se encuentran el Centro Ceremonial de los Indios de Utuado, las Ruinas de Caparra y el Castillo de San Jerónimo.
Alegría falleció en la madrugada del 7 de julio de 2011 por complicaciones de salud. Al partir del plano físico dejó varias publicaciones inconclusas que trabajaba desde su lecho de enfermo. Pero su mayor anhelo era lograr la entrada de Puerto Rico en la Unesco; labor que a su partida queda en manos de todos los que quieren conocen el valor de la cultura nacional.
